Food poisoning on holiday can occur in the form of this bacteria based toxin which at times, can be very dangerous to both humans and animals.
It is mainly found in water supplies that have not been treated correctly, but another breeding ground for E.coli (Escherichia Coli) is on meat and fish that is either undercooked, or has been subject to cross contamination.E.coli 0157 has been on the increase over the last few years, and if contracted, is the most malicious form, forming a toxin known as Shiga. If this is not treated properly, this can in fact lead to fatalities.
Symptoms can include:
- Abdominal cramps
Some E.coli bacteria are in fact harmless, but others can result in long-term disabilities. In most cases, the above symptoms are usually around for between 5 days and 1 month.
